Gears of War 4 January 2018 Update


Our latest Update for Gears of War 4 arrives on January 11th 2018 featuring new Gear Packs, updates to prepare for Ranked Season 3, improvements to the Heavy Class and more.

Ranked Season 3

versus-season-3-cba878592f084036aeb36307 Our next Ranked Season is upon us, with the switchover to Season 3 happening on January 18th! If youre on that grind for your highest placement, you still have just under two weeks to fulfill those Gears aspirations. You can do it. We believe in you.

In Season 3, well be taking the opportunity to make some playlist changes along with introducing an improved end-game for those elite enough to be members of Diamond division. Diamond players who earn their starting Diamond Rank again will still have to grind to improve their Diamond Tier beyond the base level. Head to our announcement for the first details on Season 3.

Heavy Class Buff

Since the new Rise of the Horde skills and our latest Horde balancing pass, we've heard (and felt) the feedback from fans that the Heavy Class feels less potent than it once was.

While the Sniper is rewarded for very high precision damage as a high-risk-high-reward class, the Heavy is meant to deliver consistent bursts of big hitting area of effect damage with explosives or Heavy Weapons. However, especially at higher difficulties, Heavys have become less important (or even present) than they once were in the Class lineup.

Since many of the Heavy and Launcher type weapons require a decent to high level of exposure from cover to use, Heavy players can struggle to find consistent windows of opportunity to lay down their big multi-unit damage (especially at later waves). To give Heavy players the option to make the class more survivable, we're buffing both the Berserker and Last Stand cards.


While carrying a launcher or heavy weapon you deal more damage as your health gets lower

  • Berserker now applies to holding Launchers (Boomshot, Dropshot etc) as well as Heavy Weapons

Last Stand

While carrying a launcher or heavy weapon you take less damage as your health gets lower

  • Last Stand now applies to holding Launchers as well as Heavy Weapons

  • Last Stand Level 1 from 25% ->35% Damage reduction

  • Last Stand Level 2 from 35% ->45% Damage reduction

  • Last Stand Level 3 from 45% ->55% Damage reduction

  • Last Stand Level 4 from 55% ->65% Damage reduction

  • Last Stand Level 5 from 65% ->75% Damage reduction

  • Last Stand Level 6 from 75% ->85% Damage reduction

Heavy Players should now have the option to harness this exposure from cover to lay down even more damage with Berserker or use Last Stand to be out of cover for longer / more often. Of course, you can also use both in your build!

New Gear Packs

There's still plenty more to come from Gear Packs in 2018, with new characters and weapon skins to collect every month.

We're kicking things off with our old friends the Swarm, who haven't had a new character skin for Multiplayer in quite some time. Allow us to introduce the latest addition to the multiplayer roster - the Heavy Scion.

heavy_scion_pack_1920x1080-8925f415c0464 The Heavy Scion and Heavy Scion weapon skin set will be available in our latest 400 Credit Pack beginning on Friday January 12th.

In line with our other recent changes, we also offer a real-money Mega Pack variant of this Gear Pack containing 10 Cards (plus a bonus Card) and a guaranteed Heavy Scion character.

Things We're Working On

The Live Team are continuing to work on a number of issues both internally and with our partners. While this isn't the full list, here are some of the bigger ticket items our team are focused on right now.

Kill Trades

We hear the feedback on Kill Trading and are continuing to evaluate the system in Gears 4.

In an online environment, Kill Trading is meant to provide equal conditions by allowing a tiny amount of time to check for kill shots from both players at close range. This number is in the double digit milliseconds.

This system compensates for travel time over the internet to ensure the first shot that gets to the server isn't automatically considered the winner. Basically, we're trying to avoid the person with the fastest internet winning 1v1 battles if both players fire at essentially the same time. If a killing shot does not return from the 'already dead' player within this window, no trade will occur.

While Kill Trading can be fustrating, we have seen a reduction in reports of situations where you landed a killing shot and didn't get awarded a kill.

With all that said, we are continuing to listen and evaluating all options. A server-side change launches with this Update that essentially reduces the Kill Trade window to zero (trades will only happen if both shots arrive at the same server tick) for Competitive playlists as a test case. We'll continue to monitor feedback to this latest change.

QoS Matchmaking

Since it's introduction, our data has shown Quality of Service matchmaking is providing better quality connection matchups than the region based system that came before it.

However, data isn't everything. We hear your feedback on Quality of Service - from long matchmaking waits (especially in low population regions and/or those far away from other regions) to difficulty finding a match at certain times of the day. As temporary support for players encountering this issue, we'll be posting a regionally focused 'Best Times And Modes To Play' guide to aid in these situations.

In the long term, we'll be looking at our QoS tuning and evaluating how we can improve the experience for our players around the world. Know that we are currently discussing this at the studio and assessing any potential next steps we may make.

Windows 10 Issues

We are still working on a resolution for two notable Nvidia / PC issues. Both the studio and our partners are working hard togetherto fix these issues as soon as we can. Thank you for your continued patience. If you are experiencing issues, head to this thread for two known workarounds to the problem.

Missing Reward Weapon Skins

We are looking into the reported Reward Weapon Skin issues - most notably for the Flaming Snub and Cluckshot weapon skins. The volume of issues for this was higher than expected, so we're looking into a broader solution rather than individual fixes for each user. We'll update players as soon as we can with more info.

Midnight Omen and Flaming Skins from Gearsmas are currently due to roll out as planned later this month, pending any issues we have resolving the currently missing skins for some users.

What To Expect In 2018

Whether you just picked up Gears of War 4 through Game Pass or youve been with us since day one, we know many of you are asking whats next for Gears of War 4? Will there be any more new content or events coming more than a year after release?

The answer to that question is a firm yes! While our major feature support and map drops have ended, our Live Team continues to be working hard on new content and fixes for the game. Heres a little of what you can expect:

  • New Gear Packs containing characters and weapon skins to add to your collection

  • Monthly Versus and Horde events with exclusive challenge-based rewards

  • Major Seasonal events

  • Ranked Seasons with skill placement rewards

  • Gears of War Esports Season 2

  • New achievements

Coming up next, we have Classic One Shot One Kill on January 19th - and thanks to support added with this update - melee will be disabled for the first time EVER!

Ranked Season 3 Arrives January 18th

Our next Ranked Season is upon us, with the switchover to Season 3 happening on January 18th! If youre on that grind for your highest placement, you still have just under two weeks to fulfill those Gears aspirations. You can do it. We believe in you.

In Season 3, well be taking the opportunity to make some playlist changes along with introducing an improved end-game for those elite enough to be members of Diamond division. Here's a rundown of all the updates happening alongside Ranked Season 3.

Playlist Consolidation

With Season 3, we took the opportunity to review our playlists in everything from player participation to matchmaking times to time played.

After reviewing all the data, Warzone and Arms Race immediately stood out as modes with have a much lower number of players than any other playlist, resulting in extended wait times at almost any time of the day. So, after careful consideration, we have decided to remove Warzone and Arms Race from Ranked beginning with Season 3.

We feel its important to ensure were always offering a quality matchmaking experience whenever possible and both playlists fall under those expectations.

We understand this will likely come as a disappointment to some hardcore fans of these particular game modes. Its not a decision we made lightly. In the future, well look for opportunities to bring the modes into the spotlight individually in addition to both modes will continue to be available in Social and Private Play.

Additionally, to send off the Ranked playlists for both modes, Arms Race and Warzone Core Playlists now offer Double XP until the Season 3 rollover.

Competitive Warmup - NOW WITH MORE WARMUP!

Based on community feedback, were adding more modes to Competitive Warmup with Season 3!

Team Deathmatch, Guardian and Execution will be joining the existing roster of King of the Hill and Dodgeball beginning January 18th.

New Diamond Tiers

If youve earned Diamond in Gears of War 4, you might find yourself wondering how you can push yourself to be even better.

With Season 3, were splitting Diamond into not three but FIVE tiers of Skill. When you reach Diamond, youll now have the opportunity to push yourself to be in the top echelon of Gears players including the top tier Diamond Master rank which puts you among the best in the world.

Well reveal the new names, icons and rewards for these new Diamond Tiers just before we launch Season 3 next week.

      Bienvenidos una semana más a mi video sobre el blog oficial Whats Up Gears of War. En esta semana:

      Veremos una nueva horda con temática de Halloween.
      Tenemos nueva inform ación sobre los cambios realizados en las Lancers y en la forma de apuntar.
      Un avance sobre la actualización de título 2.
      Prioridades sobre las que va a trabajar el estudio y las mejoras en la búsqueda de partidas
      Una nueva colmena.
      Y el contenido de los suministros y de la tienda.

      El evento de Halloween esta vez nos trae la horda llamada Mad Mans Monsters, algo así como los monstruos del hombre loco, donde tendremos que superar 20 oleadas de enemigos del enjambre con cabezas de calabaza, y sólo podremos usar héroes del CGO.

      Completa 60 oleadas de esta horda especial para conseguir un pack de 13 cosméticos con temática de Halloween para vuestras armas.

      Cambios en de puesta a punto

      Como se dijo en el blog del Viernes pasado, el equipo sigue trabajando en realizar diversos cambios basados en las opiniones de la comunidad vistas en los foros oficiales, pero por ahora esto es lo que Jamie MacTaggart, diseñador principal de gameplay dijo al respecto:

      Conseguir un equilibrio entre la Gnasher y la Lancer es algo crítico, y se nota cuando una de ellas destaca. Ahora mismo la Lancer está mostrándose demasiado efectiva en dos aspectos: cuando hace uso de la recarga activa, y en el daño de largo alcance.

      La cadencia de tiro se ve incrementada en un 20% con la recarga activa. En un rango largo y medio, esta bonificación hace que el tiempo que se tarda en matar sea demasiado corto, lo que hace que la gente esté jugando de una manera que no beneficia al juego.

      Los jugadores están tirando a sus enemigos en el rango largo demasiado habitualmente, y ésta es una misión de aquellas armas que se recogen por el mapa.

      De esta manera, ahora la bonificación de recarga activa en la Lancer incrementará la cadencia de tiro en un 10%, en lugar de en un 20. Por otra parte, el daño en el rango largo, se reducirá un 20% (daño a más de 30 metros) Esto hará que los jugadores que se encuentren entre un rango medio o largo, vivirán una decena de segundo más cuando se les dispare en campo abierto con una Lancer.

      En rangos que superen los 30 metros, los jugadores vivirán 4 decenas de segundo más, con un tiempo para matar de 1.5 segundos.

      Por otro lado, se han ajustado la adhesión en el apuntado automático. Esta asistencia sólo ocurre cuando el movimiento de la cámara, del stick derecho, coincide con el movimiento de nuestro objetivo. Sin embargo, como ha mostrado la comunidad con sus comentarios, esto está demasiado fuerte ahora mismo, lo que hace que sea muy fácil apuntar a objetivos en rangos medio o largo.

      El cambio para solucionar este problema es simple: la adhesión del apuntado automático se verá reducida en un 25% en todos los rangos dentro de 30 metros (más allá no hay adhesión). Este cambio simplemente significa que los jugadores tendrán que esforzarse un poco más para poder apuntar.

      A continuación, la lista de prioridades que se mostraron el pasado Viernes:

      Prioridad muy alta en solucionar la estabilidad del servicio
      Prioridad muy alta en corregir el problema que hace que el sistema de puntos no nos de los conseguidos.
      Alta prioridad en mejorar la calidad del match-making
      Alta prioridad en mejorar el gameplay del modo enfrentamiento
      Prioridad media en mejorar las conexiones.
      Prioridad media en actualizar los problemas con el progreso de la campaña.

      Algunas de estas mejoras están siendo implementadas de forma conjunta, algunas otras, como las mejoras de match-making vendrán de forma individual. De esta manera, hoy tendremos una nueva actualización con relación a este asunto.

      Durante las próximas semanas, se van a realizar unas pruebas en 3 fases para mejorar el ping, los tiempos de espera y el equilibro entre equipos en las partidas clasificadas y de partida rápida.

      La primera fase empieza hoy, y hará que nos sea más fácil encontrar partidas con buen ping, y de manera más rápida.


      Esta semana la colmena semanal se llama Forever, y en ella nos encontraremos a una selección de enemigos que se volverán invisibles cuando se acerquen a nosotros. Aguanta tus nervios y lucha por llegar al final de esta colmena siempre-cambiante.

      En los suministros de esta semana, podremos encontrar un cosmético de arma, La expresión global Si, un espray de sangre de Dropshop, dos nuevas marcas y dos nuevos estandartes.

      Por otra parte, en la tienda, podremos encontrar un grupo de cosméticos para las armas, cosméticos para la Lancer y la Gnasher, una ejecución y un nuevo espray.

      Por último, informaros de que la próxima actualización de Título, la 2.0, llegará la semana que viene. Ésta aún no ha entrado en su proceso de certificación, por lo que cabe la posibilidad de que pudiese retrasarse. No obstante, una vez que llegue, traerá mejoras en el lanzacohetes, en las granadas de destellos, arreglará el problema que hace que nos veamos afectados para siempre por una granada, el problema que hace que la taquilla de armas se las coma, y solucionará el problema con el exploit de las armas que cogemos por el mapa de forma doble. Las notas completas las podremos leer la semana que viene.
